CLIMAR Network a case study in UK Government’s AMR engagement guide

9 September 2026The CLIMAR network has been featured as a case study in the UK Government’s new AMR engagement guide.
Co-created by and for government, civil societies and local partners, and published by the UK Health Security Agency, the AMR engagement guide sets out to improve public understanding of the risk of antimicrobial resistance and how individuals can reduce the spread of infections, and is a commitment of the UK’s National Action Plan to combat antimicrobial resistance.
The report “emphasises that AMR is ‘everybody’s problem’, underscoring the importance of consistent engagement and effective antimicrobial stewardship across all health and care professions. It also highlights the importance of consistent, accessible AMR communication across all sectors. Clear and coordinated messages can help increase public awareness of the risks, the scale of the problem, and the practical steps people can take to protect themselves and others. This approach is closely aligned with the Chief Medical Officer for England’s call for strengthened communication and systemwide responsibility in addressing this escalating threat.”
Professor Will Gaze, Director of the CLIMAR network, said:
“When considering engagement, the CLIMAR network has a dual focus; while it strives to engage policymakers to think of the connected issues of climate change and AMR from a planetary health and environmental viewpoint, it’s also trying to engage people at the individual level to consider their own role in reducing the spread of infectious disease.”
